About the Role & Service

This role is based in South Hedland, WA, working within a well-established Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. The organization provides culturally appropriate, holistic primary and allied healthcare, social and emotional wellbeing services, and education to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Pilbara region.

As part of a Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) model of service pilot, you will play a key role in delivering culturally appropriate, trauma-informed support. You will assist individuals, families, and communities dealing with issues such as grief and loss, depression, domestic and family violence, alcohol and drug challenges, relationship challenges, unemployment, disability, poverty, and trauma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally safe and trauma-informed counselling to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Support clients with social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) challenges, including grief, trauma, and family distress.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and communities to promote wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and manage a caseload of clients with high and complex needs.
  • Develop and sustain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of culturally responsive service models.

Skills & Requirements

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Counselling, Mental Health, or a related field.
  • Experience in providing culturally appropriate counselling within Aboriginal communities.
  • Strong understanding of SEWB, trauma, and mental health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Experience managing complex caseloads and delivering individual and group counselling.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Community Control within the healthcare sector.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build stakeholder relationships.
