About the Role & Client:
Exciting role available for a Family Intervention Worker (FIW) in Townsville with a leading NGO.
The role focuses on providing practical support and case management to families within the child protection system. The key responsibilities revolve around helping families develop stronger parenting and household management skills, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, and working closely with Child Safety to ensure consistent reporting and intervention.

Breakdown of the Role:

  1. Support & Case Management:
    • The FIW will assist families in developing the capacity to appropriately care for their children. This involves assessing family needs, developing intervention plans, and providing practical support (e.g., parenting techniques, household skills).
  2. Supervision & Reporting:
    • Part of the role involves supervising contact between parents and children, documenting the outcomes, and reporting back to Child Safety.
  3. Trauma-Informed Practice:
    • The role operates within a trauma-informed framework, meaning the worker must understand how trauma affects family dynamics and provide evidence-based interventions.
  4. Cultural Sensitivity:
    • Given the focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, understanding cultural issues and communicating sensitively is critical.
  5. Regular Contact & Safety Monitoring:
    • The FIW maintains regular contact with families (minimum twice weekly), reviews intervention plans, and conducts safety assessments.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Essential: Degree in social services or similar and Experience in Child Protection.
