About the Role & Client:
We are partnering with a leading regional healthcare provider that delivers vital acute and community-based health services to a diverse population, including a large First Nations community. This locum role offers an opportunity to make a real impact while enjoying the unique lifestyle of outback Queensland.

As a Senior Social Worker, you will provide high-quality social work services across both Palliative Care and Acute Rural Generalist caseloads, supporting inpatients, outpatients, and community-based clients. This is an excellent opportunity to gain regional healthcare experience, working alongside Indigenous Liaison Officers and a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

About the Service:
This role supports both hospital-based and community palliative care services, ensuring patients and families receive compassionate and culturally responsive care. You will also work within the Acute Social Work team, assisting with inpatient adults (including maternity and paediatrics), Emergency Department presentations, and bereavement support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive social work support to palliative care inpatients, community-based patients, and acute hospital patients
  • Deliver psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and bereavement counselling
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including Indigenous Liaison Officers and community services
  • Contribute to discharge planning, case coordination, and family support
  • Engage with First Nations communities to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery

Skills & Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work with relevant professional membership
  • Experience in palliative care, acute care, and/or hospital-based social work
  • Strong cultural awareness, particularly in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Current Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
